Home schooling kindergarten is delightful. One day we made "B"s out of bread dough; they were very tasty with butter! That's a Bear on the chalkboard by the way. Three to four days a week we spend about an hour and a half on dedicated lesson time, and one morning a week Humboldt attends a class with other 4 to 7-year-old home schoolers. The kindergarten curriculum is very sweet. Our biggest field trip this fall was to St. Louis, Missouri. Stacey, Jack, Bo, and I discovered two small arches in the ballpark at the top of this escalator at Busch Stadium. We got to see the Cardinals win their last regular season game of the season. Go Redbirds!
There's a lot of great things for kids to do in St. Louis. Humboldt rode the train with Grandma Brenda at the zoo (that's Raja in the photo) and rode another train and tram and street car with Grandpa Ralph at the Transportation Museum.
Cousin Jack requested a ride on the muni train, so we took a little trip to the last Missouri exit and ran around the arch and enjoyed their fantastic Gateway to the West museum.
Humboldt and I enjoyed lunch with Lily at her elementary school and with Max at his preschool - both really lovely places.
On our trips to St. Louis, we always enjoy a stroll around Longview Lake. This time we were joined by second cousins, Samantha, Addison, and Charlie along with their mom, Jen. Fun time!
Stacey hosted a dinner party at her new place in Clayton. Earlier in the week, we got to see Isabella's field hockey teams win two games. Here she is on the swing in Stacey's backyard. I believe she may have dissected a small amphibian earlier that day in biology.
Wolf came to his birthday party with a mohawk. He probably went back to his dorm room at SLU after the party and studied with some of his new frat brothers.
Our latest field trip was to the pumpkin patch. Here's Jenny Hales, the education coordinator from Coastal Grove, with some of the home schoolers - and our friend, Cora. The children could have a free pumpkin, courtesy of the Co-op, if they could carry it from the field to the barn by themselves. Later that week, our home school curriculum included painting pumpkins and making pumpkin soup.
Several schools get together to put on a medieval festival as a fundraiser. Here's Humboldt dressed as a knight's squire. He had a lot of questions to ask about jousting knights and the medieval days.
Our dog, Mango, went peacefully to doggy heaven on Monday. She was eight. Here she is on the beach when Chutney was a puppy.
