Winter Solstice

Solstice is right around the corner, and we've got a special deal with Santa and the reindeer; they're coming to our house on Solstice Eve! We're incorporating our favorite parts of the holidays into the Whoville tradition. Every night HG counts down for the turning on of the festive lights - inside and out. If Bo is good, Santa will bring presents for solstice. We saw friends Miss A and Miss B dance in the Nutcracker. We sing and listen to lots of holiday songs, especially the current favorite, Jimmy Durante's Frosty the Snowman. And here's a photo of "Olive the other reindeer" (what he calls himself when he wears the antlers) and friend Miss N playing at The Scoop - after eating organic egg nog ice cream.

There's no time for any bah humbug blues with a toddler in the house. We've had lots of fun this month checking out books from the libraries, going to singing class at the university, and finding all the Santas and Frostys around town. Last week we enjoyed a lovely visit with Humboldt's bio-mom, bio-grannies, and bio-great-grandma. And just in time for solstice, our little six-month-old chickens have begun laying little eggs. Here's a photo of Bo helping his papa give the hens scratch before they roost for the night. As you can see, Fred's got an excellent system for drying out the wood before burning it in the wood stove.
