Before spring, there was winter. Winter's a fantastic time to go to southwest Florida and enjoy swimming in warm weather! For more photos of our visit with Grandpa Ralph, Grandma Brenda, and Aunt Marilyn, check out the link to the right. Humboldt and I had a great time on the Gulf Coast.
It's such a thrill observing Humboldt as he learns to read. There are so many words that he can read to me. These Bob Books are just the right level for him now. And yesterday he made his first bubble letters; he's got the B and O down pretty well. When Humboldt goes to Miss Jenny's Magical Morning once a week, he almost always gets the opportunity to paint. Here's a photo of him with Miss Jenny, who coordinates independent study at Coast Grove.
Fred's been getting the garden ready for another season. We are still eating kale and carrots that overwintered. Fred always gets the potatoes in before equinox. The sugar-snap pea starts are in the far bed next to some mill end firewood.
We bought 16 chicks that hatched in mid-March. The first week they are such cute little fluff balls. Plenty of peeping, too. We are not going to keep them all, but it's fun to raise the chicks. Until they start crowing anyway. And yes, Humboldt got a spring trim from his dad. It's very fuzzy!
If any of you have seen him lately, you know that Humboldt's alter ego is currently Bungo, the Mole Babe. Last year he was Captain Feathersword for some time; now we've moved on to insectivores. Here are a couple photos of the mischievous mole babe himself, as he appears in Brian Jacques' Redwall picture books.
