The best thing about all those cold, rainy days of winter is that they totally help us appreciate any warm and sunny days that spring has to offer. We are still enjoying a fire in the wood stove every night, but Humboldt has moved back into wearing shorts and the chickens are laying nice and regularly - almost every day. In January, five of the puppies rehomed and we were left with mom Chutney and one pup.
Wolf came for a visit and helped us ring in the new year. Somehow he made it though a couple nights of us trying to crate train the pup. (the let 'em cry it out approach) We gave that up and put mama dog in the crate with pup. Fortunately, that resulted in many quiet nights (sorry, Wolf), which are still continuing, but now Buster has weaned and is sleeping in the crate alone. Which is very good since he's almost 40 pounds. During Wolf's visit, he lifted the crate with all six puppies in it to carry them into the vet's office.

Though the weather was very wet when Wolf was here, we did manage to get in some hikes on the coast and in the big trees. Humboldt loved having his cousin around, especially because he's good at folding unicorns and reading books with expression. Now, Humboldt is getting to know his new best friend, Buster B-dog Posey, Most Valuable Puppy. Buster, meanwhile, is very good at sitting and shaking and is getting better at fetch and swimming. I also included a photo of our house, because we passed our final inspection on our addition/remodel this winter. And we were able to use the new space for whelping and as a puppy room for almost two months.
Signs of Spring in and around Whoville: geese flying north, Fred planting potatoes, red-winged blackbirds at the pond, Pacific Chorus frogs going crazy at night, and equinox eggs. Humboldt lost tooth #3 the same day we celebrated equinox, so now he's got holes on the top and bottom. He's enjoying digging in his sand box again and riding his Green Machine (photo above) around the neighborhood.
